Apple Human Factors

I spent five years at Apple cutting my teeth as a human factors engineer, which meant growing and adapting to a very rigorous, technical field incredibly quickly and with poise.

I worked with some of the brightest and most talented engineers and designers during my time at Apple, and am honored to have been able to work as hard and fast as I did with them.

Role & Team

I worked on the Human Engineering team under the Wireless Design umbrella, which was developed as a special ops group to handle the impact of the human body and natural usage on various over-the-air projects. As such, I was directly responsible for delivering research for products like AirPods, Apple Watch, iPads, and iPhones relating to grip placement, natural usage, soft goods, position, and many other human factors.

I often partnered directly with the engineers developing an antenna, buck, or software as well as designers and PMs. My work spanned many of Apple’s sprawling departments, as applications for various research were wide ranging. I can provide more details if required but I’ll suffice to list some of the project areas below:

  • Apple TV AV Sync Standards

  • AirPod (original) antenna validation

  • iPad Buck, button, camera, and other sensor and software development

  • Apple Watch Exposure and Sensor placement

  • Controller Studies

  • Siri Spotlight Search

  • MacBook Pro Touch Bar development

  • Apple AirTag and Find My features

  • Alternatives for Password Protection for iTunes Accounts

  • Apple Pencil Bluetooth Sensor and Magnetic Attachment

  • And many more.
